Craig Wilkinson will be speaking on “The Airbag in Product Defect Litigation” at the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association Fall Conference on October 19th, at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, in the Product Liability Track.
Modern airbags are a generally quiet presence in our daily lives. Millions of Canadians sit in close proximity to multiple airbags in cars every day. Airbags are in virtually every vehicle manufactured since the 1990s but how they work, and their limitations, are not well understood by those outside of the automotive industry. Some may remember Leslie Nielsen in Naked Gun fighting his way out of a car with airbags slowly inflating out of every window, or perhaps a Saturday morning cartoon with an airbag deploying a few seconds after an accident to the dismay of the deflated driver. While humorous, these depictions do not capture the speed and power with which an actual airbag deploys, or the way they interact with drivers and passengers.
