Dr. Ben Elkin has been elected as the 2018-19 Chairman of the ASTM International F13 Committee on Pedestrian/Walkway Safety and Footwear. This technical committee is improving pedestrian safety standards based on expert consensus and the latest research into human gait, slip risk and traction measurement.
Committee F13 meets twice a year, usually in January and June, with about 50 members attending two days of technical meetings. The Committee, with a membership of approximately 330, currently has jurisdiction of over 14 standards, published in the Annual Book of ASTM Standards, Volume 15.07. F13 has 5 technical subcommittees that maintain jurisdiction over these standards. These standards have and continue to play a preeminent role in all aspects important to the footwear industry.
