Dr. Ben Elkin of MEA Forensic presents a lecture on trip, slip, and fall biomechanics at the 2025 Wearables and Biomechanics Summer School, held June 23–26 at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. Sessions take place in UBC’s Gordon B. Shrum Building, Canada’s first purpose-built biomedical engineering facility.
Hosted by the Canadian Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation Research Network and supported by UBC’s School of Biomedical Engineering and the Center for Aging SMART’s Care Anywhere Program, the Summer School brings together 40 trainees from across Canada, selected through a competitive application process. Over four days of hands-on training, attendees learn from experts in assistive devices, wearables, and biomechanics, and take part in sessions exploring emerging trends and the future directions of biomechanics and wearable technologies in clinical and field applications.
Participants gain exposure to advanced techniques such as markerless motion capture and IMU processing, and collaborate on interdisciplinary group projects to develop actionable grant proposals that balance innovation with feasibility. The program also fosters professional development by connecting trainees with peers, mentors, and specialists in MSK rehabilitation, robotics, sports science, motion analysis, and wearable sensing.
