MEA Forensic’s collision reconstruction and forensic video analysis expert Ian Miller will present on retrieving crash images from vehicles equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) at the Combined Claims Conference 2026, held at the Hyatt Regency Orange County on May 19–20.
In their presentation titled “New Tools to Retrieve Images of Crashes from ADAS-Equipped Vehicles”, Ian Miller and attorney Clark Conforti of Tyson & Mendes will introduce methods to identify and recover images captured by onboard vehicle systems and demonstrate how this data can strengthen liability assessments and improve recovery outcomes.
Many modern vehicles are equipped with ADAS, which rely on built-in cameras to detect other vehicles, roadway features, and potential hazards to activate systems such as adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking. Following a collision, images captured by these cameras in the seconds before, during, and after the event may still be stored within the vehicle, and may contain critical information that can support or challenge claims. Using real case examples involving Toyota, Tesla, and GM vehicles, Ian Miller and Clark Conforti will demonstrate how this image data can be recovered, what it may reveal about a collision, and how it can be used alongside traditional event data recorder (EDR) downloads to help validate loss scenarios, assess liability, and identify potential fraud. He investigates crashes involving passenger vehicles, commercial trucks, motorcycles, bicycles, and pedestrians. He uses advanced tools to retrieve and analyze vehicle data from diverse sources, including event data recorders (EDR), onboard systems and external recording devices. A LEVA Certified Forensic Video Technician, he applies advanced video analysis techniques to determine key information such as vehicle motion, positioning, and speed from recovered footage. He is known for identifying and retrieving critical data from an ever-widening range of sources, helping claims and legal professionals strengthen their cases across California and the United States.
