In his role as a Senior Biomechanical Engineer, Dennis Chimich investigates how injuries happen in vehicle collisions, slips and falls, product failures, and sporting events. He has worked on thousands of cases during his forensic career and testified as an expert witness in court on multiple occasions. Dennis is currently studying the accuracy of devices used to measure surface friction when investigating slip and fall incidents. He has also been involved in research on the impact performance of helmets, whiplash, occupant kinematics, and knee injury biomechanics.

Dr. Ben Elkin currently chairs the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) F13 Committee on Pedestrian/Walkway safety and Footwear, working to improve the protocols for friction measurement devices called tribometers. As a Biomechanical Engineer, Ben assesses the causal relationship between an event and an injury by comparing forces applied to the body in an incident to the mechanism and threshold of injury. His research into tribometers helps improve the tools used to answer legal and insurance questions about slip and fall accidents, and contributes to walkway safety.

Dr. John Gardiner conducts reconstruction and biomechanical analyses of a variety of events including automobile collisions, falls, sports injuries, and shootings. He is involved in MEA’s ongoing research into slip and fall mechanics, recently focusing on the injury to climbers falling from indoor bouldering walls. His research interests also include helmets and shoulder biomechanics.
