Recent changes to the automobile insurance regime in British Columbia, including the move to a “care-based” model of accident compensation, has led many of our clients to their first encounter with the Civil Resolution Tribunal (CRT). The CRT is Canada’s first online tribunal, where all disputes over the new and expanded benefits are to be resolved. Lauryn Kerr, Legal Counsel to the CRT, will be giving a primer on how to bring a case before the CRT, from inception to determination, and will address procedural matters that may arise along the way. She will provide resources to guide lawyers through the tribunal process, which is a system that is unfamiliar to most defence lawyers. She will explain CRT’s role in resolving accident benefit disputes under the new Enhanced Care model, and will highlight the many ways in which lawyers will play an important role throughout the process.
