Dr. Ben Elkin and Jahvanna Ryan are at the Ontario Bar Association’s Conference Centre all day to meet the attendees. This 8th annual joint CIAA-CICMA-CDL Seminar is chaired by Steven Nicoletta of Genest Murray LLP, Stephanie Young of Northbridge Financial, and Lydia Thomas of Crawford & Company. The program includes a cybersecurity panel and an update on the ever-changing world of accident benefits in Ontario. John Valeriote of Crawford Canada will present 3 things one needs to know to resolve claims through appraisal/ADR, and Laura Mullin of McKellar Structured Settlements will explain how structured settlements can add value to one’s negotiation toolbox. The last session of the day is presented by Dr. Charles Tator of the Canadian Concussion Centre at Toronto Western Hospital. His talk will focus on the progress made toward improved recognition and management of concussions.

The Canadian Insurance Claims Managers Association (CICMA) was first established in 1952 s an organization to allow claims managers to promote and enhance the image and general welfare of the General Insurance industry in matters pertaining to the settlement of claims and develop harmonious relations amongst those people engaged in the direction of or the investigation and adjustment of claims. Members exchange information and discuss matters of common interest, promote and maintain a high standard of ethics in the handling of general insurance claims, further such claims administration as will result in just and proper settlement of meritorious claims, and promote arbitration or mediation in the resolution of claims.
Canadian Defence Lawyer (CDL) is a non-profit organization founded in 1995, which now has over 1400 members from coast to coast. It wants to be a voice and a resource for civil defence lawyers providing a national perspective, quality defence-specific education and networking opportunities. Its focus is to address issues of importance to members and to the broader defence community of claims adjusters, claims managers, risk managers and subject experts.
