The 65th Annual Seminar of the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel takes place May 7–8 at the JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. LIVE. Bringing together attorneys, claims professionals, judges, and industry representatives, the seminar provides a forum for discussion on developments shaping civil litigation and insurance defense. MEA Forensic will be represented on the exhibit floor by Dr. Stephanie Bonnin, David King, Dwayne Toscano, and Randy Paulson, who look forward to connecting with attendees over the course of the seminar.
With attendance expected to exceed 500 participants, the program is organized into three concurrent tracks: Anatomy of a Trial, Hot Topics, and New Lawyer—alongside plenary sessions and keynote presentations. Sessions address issues relevant to automobile litigation, damages assessment, evidentiary challenges, and trial strategy, including the use and examination of expert witnesses. Additional topics span litigation technology and the use of artificial intelligence, as well as practical aspects of trial practice such as jury selection and witness examination. The seminar also includes a keynote address from 8-time Olympic medalist speed skater Apolo Ohno, who will discuss personal reinvention and high-performance mindset following his athletic career. The Association of Southern California Defense Counsel (ASCDC) was organized in 1960 by a small group of Los Angeles defense attorneys who felt it was essential for their professional interest to be independently represented. The ASCDC has since grown to become the nation’s preeminent regional defense organization. It now encompasses a diverse group of lawyers who practice from north of Santa Barbara to the Mexican border and from the desert of the inland empire to the shores of Santa Monica. Its members share ideas on the listserve, during MCLE programs, and through Verdict magazine. It draws on the leadership skills of defense attorneys who head up committees that author amicus briefs, organize bench-bar functions, promote diversity and charitable endeavors, and much more.
