The Canadian Defence Lawyers’ annual Boot Camp is back in person for the first time since 2019. It is held at the Ontario Bar Association Conference Centre on Friday, October 28. MEA Forensic is proud to sponsor this event, which offers basic training for new defence litigators.
The 2022 CDL Boot Camp is chaired by Caroline Gaikis of Dutton Brock LLP and Theomarcus Giannou of Intact Insurance. It is a targeted CLE for new insurance defence lawyers, articling students, and claims examiners, offering broad overviews of the most important law and procedures. The full-day program contains useful advice on building and running an insurance defence practice. It is also a rare opportunity to get together with other new lawyers and meet those one is likely to encounter over the course of one’s career.
This year, Catherine Bruder of Bruder Springstead LLP will start this year’s program by officially welcoming attendees to the world of insurance defence. The group will then receive an introduction to torts, a primer on pro-active litigation, tips on how to think like an investigator, and a guide on mediating personal injury claims, all presentations offered by seasoned professionals. CDL also prepared a panel discussion on the dos & don’ts of discoveries with Pearl Rombis of Strigberger Brown Armstrong LLP, Nicole Rogers of Aviva Trial Lawyers, Mouna Hanna of Dolden Wallace Folick LLP, and Avi Sharabi of Stieber Berlach LLP. Canadian Defence Lawyer (CDL) is a non-profit organization founded in 1995, and now has over 1400 members from coast to coast. It wants to be a voice and a resource for civil defence lawyers providing a national perspective, quality defence-specific education and networking opportunities. Its focus is to address issues of importance to members and to the broader defence community of claims adjusters, claims managers, risk managers and subject experts.
