The Association of Southern California Defense Counsel hosts its 62nd annual seminar on February 9 and 10, 2023. New and seasoned defense attorneys are gathering at the JW Marriott Hotel in Los Angeles for two days of educational programming, discussions about changes to applicable laws and statutes, and networking opportunities. This year, the association plans to honor its past leadership, while celebrating its future. ASCDC’s former president Robert Olson and member David Hackett, both partners at Graines, Martin, Stein & Richland, will kick things off with a “Year in Review” summarizing notable appellate decisions impacting civil defense and insurance claims. The next day, keynote speaker Rob O’Neil, a combat veteran and New York Times best-selling author, will share how he was able to perform difficult tasks under challenging circumstances. The Association of Southern California Defense Counsel (ASCDC) was organized in 1960 by a small group of Los Angeles defense attorneys who felt it was essential for their professional interest to be independently represented. The ASCDC has since grown to become the nation’s preeminent regional defense organization. It now encompasses a diverse group of lawyers who practice from north of Santa Barbara to the Mexican border and from the desert of the inland empire to the shores of Santa Monica. Its members share ideas on the listserve, during MCLE programs, and through Verdict magazine. It draws on the leadership skills of defense attorneys who head up committees that author amicus briefs, organize bench-bar functions, promote diversity and charitable endeavors, and much more.
