The Law Enforcement & Emergency Services Video Association International, Inc. presents its 2023 Digital Multimedia Evidence Training Symposium on October 23-27, 2023. Cole Young and Tom Flynn, our practice leaders in video analysis, will present on reverse projection without access to the camera on Tuesday afternoon, at 3:30PM.
Cole and Tom both specialize in video analysis and have received hundreds of hours of dedicated training from authoritative organizations like LEVA. As leaders of our Video Analysis group, Cole and Tom analyze video from all kinds of sources: body-worn cameras, dashcams, surveillance systems, traffic cameras and cell phones. They have a fundamental understanding of video, combined with an engineering approach to analysis, that help them accurately stabilize video, determine frame rate, correct for lens distortion and track object positions.
Those who will attend the session will discover techniques for solving lens distortion in video frames for use in position analysis using 3D measurements, specifically in cases where the subject camera is not accessible. Understanding the benefits and limitations of a full 3D recreation can better inform the investigator as to whether or not a specific investigation warrants the work required. The objectives of the session will be understanding the basic concepts in lens distortion math and software packages, covering common questions faced by crash reconstructionists in video-centric cases, and different approaches to address uncertainty in position measurements.
