Ben Elkin presents at the 2023 Slips, Trips and Falls International Conference

Dr. Benjamin Elkin presents on his latest research project, A top-of-flight defect affects foot placement on subsequent stair treads during descent, at the 2023 Slips, Trips and Falls International Conference on June 2nd, 2023. The conference, held at The KITE Research Institute in Toronto June 1-2, brings together experts from North America and around the world to share research excellence, industrial advances and policy innovations in slip/trip/fall-related injury prevention. MEA Forensic’s Dennis Chimich, Dr. Allen Yu and Anna Polak are also attending.

The STF International Conference draws delegates from a wide variety of safety-related sectors, including risk and safety managers, architects and designers, planners and facilities managers, ergonomists and forensics experts, footwear or flooring manufacturers, policymakers, standards committee members, other safety and healthcare professionals, researchers, and engineering. On Friday, the second day of the conference, Ben will open the session on Fall risk and the built environment with his latest finding on how a top-of-flight defect affects foot placement on subsequent stair treads. Other scientists will then talk about the importance of foot posture strategies at initial contact during stair descent, and stairway ascent effort and protruding nosings. The full conference program is available on the STF International Conference website.

The KITE Research Institute-University Health Network (KITE-UHN) is home to some of the world’s most technologically advanced rehabilitation research facilities, and a world leader in complex rehabilitation, with 100 scientists dedicated to improving the lives of people living with the effects of disability, illness, and aging. KITE is one of the principal research enterprises at the University Health Network (UHN), Canada’s top medical research hospital with more than $474 million in total annual research expenditures and 1,167 principal investigators (2022).

Slips, Trips and Falls International Conference (STF International Conference) was first held in Hopkinton, USA (2007), followed by successful conferences in Nottingham, UK (2008), Beijing, China (2009), Morgantown, USA (2010), Buxton, UK (2011), Recife, Brazil (2012), Tokyo, Japan (2013), Melbourne, Australia (2015), London, UK (2016), Toronto, Canada (2017), Florence, Italy (2018), Madrid, Spain (2020), Sendai, Japan (2022).
