MEA Forensic experts Dennis Chimich and Dr. Gunter Siegmund present at the 2026 Slips, Trips and Falls International Conference, hosted by The University of Alabama in Huntsville from June 16–18, 2026. Organized by the International Ergonomics Association’s Slips, Trips, and Falls Technical Committee, the conference brings together researchers, practitioners, and industry professionals from around the world to share research excellence, industrial advances, and policy innovations in the prevention of slip, trip, and fall-related injuries. The program includes presentations on the measurement and evaluation of slip resistance, footwear and surface interaction, stairway safety, biomechanics of slips, trips, and falls, and advances in slip risk standards and prevention.
Dennis and Gunter will present research in two technical sessions focused on slip resistance and stairway safety. Dennis Chimich will present The Effect of Temperature on Walkway Tribometer Measurements, co-authored with Benjamin Elkin, Kohle Merry, and Gunter Siegmund. Presented as part of Session 3: Measurement and Evaluation of Slip Resistance, the study examines how temperature may influence walkway tribometer measurements. Gunter Siegmund will present The Distribution of Shoe Overhang During Stair Descent – A Step Toward Predicting Slip Risk, co-authored with Alan Mitchell and Benjamin Elkin, as part of Session 7: Stairway Safety.
The conference keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Stephen Robinovitch of Simon Fraser University. His presentation draws on a dataset of more than 3,000 real-world falls collected and analyzed by his Injury Prevention and Mobility Laboratory to advance understanding of fall mechanisms and injury prevention in older adults. MEA Forensic is also represented in the conference’s Industry Panel Discussion by Dr. Benjamin Elkin, participating alongside representatives from industry, government, and academia.
The International Ergonomics Association‘s Slips, Trips, and Falls Technical Committee (IEA STF TC) has hosted the conference in cities around the world since 2007
