Kohle Merry

Dr. Kohle Merry is a biomechanical engineer in MEA Forensic’s Vancouver office. He investigates injuries in a variety of cases, including slips, trips and falls, motor vehicle collisions, and sports incidents. Kohle uses his knowledge of human movement and injury mechanics to assess injury causation, and contributing factors.

Kohle’s academic career focused on injury prevention, reduction, and recovery. He holds a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering – Biomedical Engineering Option from the University of British Columbia (UBC), a Masters in Mechatronic Systems Engineering from Simon Fraser University, and a Doctorate in Rehabilitation Science from UBC. His PhD research focused on the application of biomechanics and biomedical engineering to musculoskeletal injury recovery.

Kohle has applied his understanding of human movement and injury tolerance to fields ranging from worksite safety and ergonomics to sportswear optimization. Combined with formal training in injury prevention and rehabilitation, his mechanical background enables him to assess injury-producing incidents through both engineering and biological lenses.

“Research engineers are often concerned with how their results apply to a broad population, and design engineers want their product to meet the needs of a large user group,” he explains. “I use the same science to answer questions that relate to an individual and a unique event. That one-to-one impact makes the work especially meaningful to me.”
