The International Ergonomics Association presents its 2026 edition of its Slips, Trips and Falls International Conference at The University of Alabama in Huntsville from June 16–18. The conference brings together researchers, practitioners, and industry professionals from around the world to share research excellence, industrial advances, and policy innovations in the prevention of slip, trip, and fall-related injuries. MEA Forensic’s experts Dennis Chimich and Dr. Gunter Siegmund will be presenting the firm’s recent research in slips, trips, and falls, and Dr. Benjamin Elkin will take part in an industry panel discussion.
The program includes presentations on the measurement and evaluation of slip resistance, footwear and surface interaction, stairway safety, biomechanics of slips, trips, and falls, and advances in slip risk standards and prevention. Dr. Stephen Robinovitch of Simon Fraser University delivers the conference keynote address, Understanding and Preventing Falls and Fall-Related Injuries in Older Adults Using a Unique Video Dataset. Dr. Robinovitch directs the Injury Prevention and Mobility Laboratory, which focuses on understanding the causes and prevention of injury. His address draws on his laboratory’s research to advance understanding of fall mechanisms and injury prevention in older adults.
MEA Forensic’s presentations span two technical sessions. On June 17, Dennis will present The Effect of Temperature on Walkway Tribometer Measurements as part of Session 3: Measurement and Evaluation of Slip Resistance; On June 18, Gunter will present The Distribution of Shoe Overhang During Stair Descent – A Step Toward Predicting Slip Risk as part of Session 7: Stairway Safety, chaired by Dr. Sara Harper, Assistant Professor at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and Conference Chair.
