The Society of Automotive Engineers’ World Congress (SAE WCX) provides a forum for engineers and technical leaders to exchange practical, research-driven insights and collaborate on solutions that shape the future of mobility. MEA Forensic engineers Matthew Ahrens, Ian Miller, and Gabrielle Booth will present their latest research at SAE WCX 2026, held April 14–16 in Detroit. Their work examines topics in collision reconstruction, including ABS braking performance across varying road and tire conditions and the accuracy and uncertainty of consumer-grade GPS data.
Presented research includes:
- Vehicle Deceleration Levels during Wet-to-Dry Transitions on an Asphalt Surface with a High Proportion of Aggregate
- The Effect of Tire Tread Depth on Antilock-Brake System (ABS) Decelerations on Dry and Wet Asphalt and Concrete Road Surfaces
- Bias and Uncertainty in the Time, Position, and Speed Data of Consumer-Grade GPS Devices
All three presentations will take place on April 15 as part of the Occupant Protection: Accident Reconstruction (Part 2) technical sessions in Room 251 B. Matthew Ahrens presents at 1:30 PM, followed by Ian Miller at 2:00 PM, and Gabrielle Booth at 3:00 PM. MEA Forensic’s Alan Mitchell, Nikolas Arnold, David King, and Gunter Siegmund contributed to the research supporting these presentations as co-authors on one or more of the technical papers.
