The Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles’ annual Las Vegas Convention is the largest convention of trial attorneys in the United States. It’s been held annually in Las Vegas since 1983 and, after a pause imposed by a pandemic and related restrictions, it is back this year. It is held at the Bellagio Las Vegas Resort on September 2-5, 2021.

Mr. David King leads the Collision Reconstruction group in Los Angeles. Since joining the firm in 1984, he has investigated over 5,000 accidents involving a variety of vehicles, including heavy trucks, buses, and trains. He assesses factors such as speed, collision severity, impact sequence, occupant movement, seat belt use and opportunities for drivers to avoid a crash. Chris Espinosa, Visual Communication Specialist

Mr. Chris Espinosa is the Visual Communication Specialist at MEA Forensic. From our Los Angeles office, he creates demonstrative evidence our experts use to present technical information to clients and the court. His specialties include graphics, video, animation, multimedia, and virtual reality. Chris is spearheading MEA’s exploration of virtual reality (VR) as a forensic engineering tool. “With our Faro 3D laser scanner, we’re able to generate a point cloud so detailed, it looks like a three-dimensional photo,” Chris explains. John Gardiner, Principal, Senior Biomechanical Engineer

Dr. John Gardiner leads our Biomechanics Group in the Los Angeles office. John is responsible for conducting reconstruction and biomechanical analyses of a variety of events including automobile collisions, falls, sports injuries, and shootings. He is involved in MEA’s ongoing research into helmets, slip and fall mechanics, and shoulder biomechanics. To understand the science of biomechanics one must understand the relationship between force and movement, so it is only fitting that John is an ardent and accomplished runner. Stephanie Bonin, Senior Biomechanical Engineer

Dr. Stephanie Bonin analyzes injuries in cases involving automobile collisions, brain injuries, helmet protection, slip and falls, and workplace accidents. In addition to her research on helmets, Stephanie has studied wearable sensor systems for measuring head impact severity in football players. She is looking forward to combining these topics in an upcoming study of concussions in equestrian sports, the ultimate goal of which is to help design more effective helmets. “I’m a rider,” she says, “so my interest in this is both scientific and personal.” Read Stephanie's full bio |

Cole Young, Project Engineer, Collision Reconstruction, Video Analysis Specialist

Mr. Cole Young is a certified forensic video technician and has accumulated 160+ hours of video-specific training with the Law Enforcement & Emergency Services Video Association. Cole can extract information such as vehicle speed from security camera, dashcam, and cell phone video. He has also developed methods for determining the position of evidence at an accident scene from photographs. Cole’s detailed approach to working with video and photographic evidence extends to how he uses graphics to illustrate the results of his analysis: “I focus on presenting information clearly and allowing the physical evidence to show how an event unfolded.” Read Cole's full bio |

Steven Anderson, Senior Engineer, Motorcycle & Powersports Vehicles Specialist

Mr. Steve Anderson brings over 40 years of experience in forensic engineering and motorcycle design to his work as a senior engineer in MEA Forensic’s Collision Reconstruction Group. He investigates all kinds of vehicle accidents but specializes in those involving motorcycles and other powersports vehicles. Steve has been invited to present on two-wheel vehicle design and safety at the World Motorcycle Conference and at several International Micromobility conferences. Russell Gish, Senior Engineer, Collision Reconstruction

Dr. Russell Gish is a senior engineer in our Collision Reconstruction group. He uses engineering principles to analyze evidence and answer a wide range of questions about the circumstances of a particular car accident, and can assess the crashworthiness of vehicles involved in a crash. His PhD work, done at the University of California, Berkley, established the mathematical foundation for a new method of analyzing crash forces and the resulting car damage. At MEA, Russell has continued to develop techniques for damage analysis and has published peer-reviewed research on how to use a computer method called finite element analysis in the field of collision reconstruction.
